Halloween is one of the oldest holidays in the world. It is originally spelled Hallowe'en. It is thought to have originated from the ancient Celts of Ireland centuries ago and is still celebrated by many countries around the world. Halloween is an Irish and Scottish word that is short for "All Hallow's Eve". November 1st marked the New Year for the Celtics. They believed that October 31st was the night when the dead would come back to life and would also visit loved ones. They would celebrate by throwing a party known as Samhain. Of course, today children and adults from all around the world continue to dress up in their costumes and throw parties for Halloween.
