They have distinct features from the American and Eurasian beavers. The mountain beaver has a significantly short tail. They have an average measurement of 1.9 feet in length with a weight of less than 4.4 pounds. They have many other common names including Ground Bear, Boomer and Giant Mole.
This mountain beaver skull was professionally beetle-cleaned by a taxidermist. It is in excellent condition! The skull is also different from other rodents because of the muscular structure of the jaw and simple structure of the teeth. You can clearly see the extreme detail of every feature on the skull.
